Calculus: - Composition:

- hard calcified, mineralised plaque that is a plaque retentive factor that aids disease - 70-90% inorganic - Calcium brushite: early supra calc lower lingual 3-3 declines after 14 days and high water content - Octacalcium phosphate: mostly early-mid stage supra that matures into calcium hydroxyapatite after 6 months - Magnesium whitlockite: more in sub than supra and mature calc, mainly sublingual posteriors - Calcium hydroxyapatite: most common, sub and supra in mature - 10-30% organic: desquamated epithelial cells, leucocytes and mucins from saliva and small amounts of non viable bacteria trapped
