- 1 in 100 people affected - bursts of abnormal electrical activity in the brain that results in disturbance of consciousness and motor/ sensory function - which part of the brain is affected - 75% idiopathic and 25% due to: birthing trauma, severe head injury, degenerative brain disorder, cerebrovascular disease, tumour or the brain, infections, HIV/ AIDS, and drug abuse - Not always obvious and varies from person to person: flashing lights/ loud noises (photo sensitive epileptic), alcohol consumption, drug abuse, stress, lack of sleep, hunger
