Put the beaker into a water bath at 60c for 15 minutes to denature the enzymes that could digest the DNA.

Chop up onion.

Put the mixture into the blender to break open the cell wall and release the DNA.

Put the onion in a beaker with a solution of detergent and salt, the detergent breaks down the cell membrane as it is protein and the salt makes the DNA stick together.

Add ice cold ethanol (to prevent fire) to split the solution into layers based upon their solubility in ethanol.

The insoluble DNA will come out of the solution as a stringy white substance that can be collected with a glass rod.

Put the beaker in ice to cool the mixture down and prevent the DNA from breaking down.
