The two major pathways or streams in the visual system are the _ and the _ stream. The _ stream runs from the primary visual cortex to the dorsal prestriate cortex to the posterior parietal cortex. It is also called the “where” stream, because the brain regions belonging to the dorsal stream are primarily involved in the perception of where things are. If damaged, patients are still able to describe an object, but they experience difficulties when they try to reach out for the object and grasp it. Patients with damage to this stream have also problems to imagine a location or to recall it from memory.
