this is the highest level of oxygen consumption at which there is less than 1mmol increase in blood lactate concentration above pre - exercise levels. usually occurs at the same point as the ventilatory threshold is the point at which pulmonary ventilation increases disproportionally with oxygen uptake (Vo2) during an incremental exercise test.
