AERIAL OPERATION SKILL INSTRUCTIONS – To be read to the Candidate The candidate will safely demonstrate the proper method for spotting, setting and operating the aerial device. You are asked to set the ladder at a safe climbing angle for roof operations on a designated building. Upon completion of the ladder set, you will re-bed the ladder and return the apparatus to road ready within the allotted time. Failure to complete the skill in the allotted time will constitute failure of the entire skill.

Proper positioning

Smooth operation of ladder

Turns on the Master Power Switch

Completes Skill in 12 minutes or less

Ensures jack/ladder switch is in the jack position

Chock the wheels

Places apparatus in neutral

Ensures all jack lights and green interlock lights are on

*All tires off the ground or remove bulge from tires

Brings ladder down and smoothly places in cradle

Returns apparatus to road ready, including generator and PTO

*Sets the parking brake

*Sets outriggers with both levels in green

*While standing on the turn table, candidate verbalizes there are no overhead obstruction prior to raising ladder out of bed

Ladder in low idle coming out of cradle

*Places all four jack plates and deploys all four jacks completely on jack plates

Engages Aerial PTO

Confirms the ladder is pinned for rescue operations and not elevated master streams

Verbalizes ladder is set and ready for climbing

Ensures the jack/ ladder switch is in the Jack position

Ensures the jack/ladder switch is in the ladder position

Use high idle at appropriate times

Excites the generator
