Produces an image of the heart, lungs and bones of thee chest

Use of Doppler ultrasound to create images of the heart

Patient exercises on treadmill or bicycle and then an ECG is carried out to look for abnormalities

Continuous ECG recording for 24 hours

Uses a radiolabelled contrast agent such as thallium201 that is taken up into heart muscle in proportion to localised blood flow and stays in myocardial cells whilst scan is performed. Cold spots indicate areas of injury.

Most direct means to detect coronary blockage (stenosis). Radioplaque contrast material injected into artery and visualised radiographically to locate site of obstruction/ presence of atherosclerotic plaque

Used to analyse platelet function, cardiac enzymes, CRP, cholesterol levels and for genetic testing.
